Jalan-jalan pelan-pelan

Open Contemporary Arts Center

2018

台北市大同區甘州街25號, Taipei, Taiwan

For one month, Sinta & I stayed in Taiwan for cultural events and meetings in Taipei, and a road trip along the east-coast visiting Yilan, Hualien and Chayi with friends from the arts & academia. A journey exploring the function and instrument of narratives, what they do, mean and mediate. Some parts of the cultural fields in Asia are aspiring to become industries and markets, with "internationalisation" as part of globalisation trend. In the meantime, also a trend in the West of "decolonisation" & "intersectionality" questions the exploitation and oppression of certain groups and artists who do not confirm the (Western) standards, norms, politics, aesthetics and have their own sense, form, contents, stories... without being sidelined in categories like "urban" art, "world" music, "foreign" cinema, "Asian" focus etc

With Jalan-jalan pelan-pelan (literally: stroll slowly in bahasa Indonesia), Sinta & I both gave a talk about our activities and interests at OCAC on Sunday 26 August in a very nice company of people with whom we continued the conversations in all directions, afterwards.
