SA SA BASSAC artist residency

2016

Curated by Chum Chanveasna, Sa Sa Bassac

#18 2nd Floor, Sothearos Blvd. PO Box 2181 Phnom Penh 3, Cambodia

During a one-month residency at art space Sa Sa Bassac, I researched the food process in nowadays Cambodia, from farms on the countryside via markets in villages & cities to the table in our homes. The research and all the findings came to manifestation in the work [premature cultures] presented during an open studio at Sa Sa Bassac in 2016 and later at the group exhibition "Kraanh Norneal" at Sa Sa Art Projects in 2017. Remakes of [premature cultures] were part of [re-enacting memories] with TAN Vatey at Festival Europalia Indonesia in Brussels, 2017. Photographs of [premature cultures] featured also for the touring exhibition "Facing The Climate", organized by and at the Swedish Embassy in Phnom Penh in 2018.

SA SA BASSAC is a gallery and resource center dedicated to curating, mediating and archiving Cambodian contemporary visual culture, both within and outside of our space. The program in Phnom Penh focuses on singular exhibitions of new work by Cambodian artists, while also working with guest curators and collaborative projects, all of which inspire innovative educational programs in Khmer and English. Sa Sa Bassac partners with local, regional and international institutions, residencies, museums, and galleries to expand networks and knowledge for artists and audiences alike. SA SA BASSAC was co-founded in 2011 by Stiev Selapak artist collective and curator Erin Gleeson.
